Glossary
Portal words.
The terms on the pattern pages. A portal is records, and the rules between them.
RecordOne contact, company, deal, ticket, or custom object.
PropertyA named field on a record. Someone owns the name, the definition, and the date it is retired.
Custom objectA record type that is not a contact, company, or deal. Use it when the thing you sell or serve does not fit those three.
AssociationThe labeled link between two records. A report that needs the unit on a booking needs that label to exist.
Association labelThe name of the link, such as billing contact or dealer. An unlabeled association is a line with no meaning.
LifecycleThe shared stage of a person, agreed by sales and marketing. Two definitions make every report argue.
PipelineThe ordered stages of a deal or ticket. One pipeline the teams can say out loud. Not one pipeline per rep.
OwnerThe user responsible for a record. A record with no owner is invisible in the views that matter.
TeamA group of users used for assignment and for what they are allowed to see.
Permission setWhat a user may view, edit, or delete. A large portal needs these written down, not a shared admin login.
Business unitA partition for brand, assets, or permissions when more than one brand shares the portal.
ViewA saved filter of records. A private deal showing in a public view is a design failure.
Calculated propertyA field derived from other fields. It cannot stand in for a missing association.
Anti-patternA design that works for a few users and fails after the portal grows.
